Bold Beginnings
Good things happen when you least expect it. An informal meeting with a little girl Zuri and her mother Kimberly after my presentation at the Arizona non-profit expo was the start of my journey in developing the Junior Public Speaking League.
Kimberly Muhammad and her daughter Zuri are the founders of Zuri's Circle a non-profit organization that helps to feed the community. They were looking for suggestions on ways to encourage the youth within their organization to feel comfortable speaking about the work they do in the community.
After a few lunch meetings at Pita Jungle where we wiped our plates clean. I came up with the concept and outline for the Junior Public Speaking League and as the saying goes, 'the rest is history.'
From the beginning, this journey has been a labor of love, joy, laughter and insight. Public speaking is a way to show people you have something to say and through this program, individuals both young and mature learn tools, techniques and skills they will use for a lifetime.
